Rio Grande Rift GPS Site RG20, Near Silverton, Colorado

Site RG20, including a view of the mast supporting CSAS station Putney (courtesy Nicole Feldl).

THIS SITE HAS BEEN INSTALLED AND IS CURRENTLY LOGGING DATA!

This site was installed by UNAVCO with the help of Center for Snow and Avalanche Studies' (CSAS) personnel on September 19-20, 2006. The location is east of Red Mountain Pass, collocated with the "Putney" site in the CSAS' Senator Beck Basin study area.

This site has competent (quartz latite porphyry) volcanic bedrock underfoot and great sky view.

Thanks to Bob Roe and Tronox LLC for letting us use this location (and particularly to Bob for assessing the location firsthand and facilitating the permitting), to Bob Risch of the Red Mountain Project for helping us contact Tronox, to Frank Baumgartner for providing access across his property, and to Chris Landry of CSAS for suggesting the location and letting us piggyback off of his existing research infrastructure!

The 10-day gap in data from 18-28 Aug 2008 (see time series on our status page) followed a lightning strike at the site.
